Mistakes with the first garden fire pit often start before the bricks are laid. Too little space for handling, unknown ground, and lack of water drainage are difficult to fix by applying mortar alone. Before you start construction in April, go through the drawing as if the structure were already standing in the garden.
Check the site during actual use
Mark the position of people, fuel, tools, and the nearest surrounding elements. Take into account the path of smoke and the requirements for heated surfaces. Heat-resistant materials do not automatically justify installing a fire pit on a terrace without checking the arrangement or under a canopy.
Check the ground and the weight of the planned structure. Water must be drained even when the fire pit is not in use. Filling the lowest spot under the refractory material does not eliminate the cause of moisture accumulation.
Do not select the entire wall based on a single criterion
Vitcas firebricks can be planned in a compatible working zone in the presence of fire. The outer rim, support, and any insulation have different functions. The high resistance of the brick itself does not determine the surface temperature on the opposite side of the wall.
Match Outdoor Oven Cement to the specified exterior joints and brick geometry. Do not compensate poorly fitted gaps with an arbitrarily thick layer. Fitting several rows allows you to determine the cuts and the course of connections in advance.
Leave space for later maintenance
Before bricklaying, check how you will remove the ash and inspect the most heated part. If you use removable equipment, leave a path for its disassembly. A permanently closed recess may look aesthetic, but during the first repair may require demolition.
After construction, perform the specified setting and drying of materials. A large initial fire is not a test confirming the soundness of the construction. Record the condition after the intended first heating and compare later changes in joints and bricks to it, especially after an extended period of rain.
