The ceramic mat is used to limit heat flow in the designated layer of the furnace. Its flexibility helps to adapt the insulation to the shape of the construction. However, this does not mean that it can be added in any place of an existing appliance or that fibers can be left exposed in the room.
In which layer does the mat work?
A sample arrangement may include a working lining, an insulation layer, and an outer structure. The lining bears the load from the furnace side; the insulation behind it limits heat flow. This describes the function of the layers, not a ready-made design for every furnace.
During modernization, it is necessary to check whether changing the insulation will raise the temperature of other parts. The dimensions of the chamber, support for the lining, and air supply must still comply with the appliance documentation. The mat does not repair loose bricks and does not replace the required clearances from combustible materials.
What data to compare before purchase?
- Type of fiber and approved product application.
- Thickness and density specified in the design.
- Operating temperature, loads, and method of surface protection.
- Fastenings and continuity of insulation at joints.
Vitcas Ceramic Mat 1260°C is a specific example of an insulation product. However, the number in the name alone is not sufficient to select the material: compliance with actual conditions and documentation is required. Other types of fibers may have different properties and operating principles.
Cutting and Organizing the Installation Site
Before starting, read the product safety data sheet. Select the recommended protective measures and dust control methods. Do not leave loose fibers near air vents or in living areas. Dispose of waste in the manner prescribed for the given material.
Measure the sections and plan the joints before fastening. Accidental gaps or excessive compression change the insulation layout. After completion, check the surface protection and layer stability. If the design requires a rigid element, the vermiculite board serves a different function than a flexible mat; they should not be swapped without evaluating the structure.
